Text Box: RESEARCH PROJECTS
Text Box: Over the years I have carried out research on a number of projects below are some details of  some of the more well known. The research is self funded however  I am grateful to a number of people who have given me advice, supplied information or have directed me to relevant authorities.
Text Box: Lunatick Astronomy

Matthew Boulton is famous for being a great entrepreneur and partner of James Watt. Boulton was the force behind the Lunar Society—a group of friends who met on the Monday closest to the full moon to discuss science and business matters. My own research was to investigate the astronomical interests of the Lunar Society. Indeed Lunar Society member James Keir had stated that the favourite past times of Boulton were Electricity and Astronomy. Yet we never find details of his astronomy activities in the published literature. By investigating the Boulton and Watt collection at the Birmingham City Archives I found a wealth of information that gave a new insight into Astronomy in 18th century Birmingham. A presentation of the research entitled ‘Lunatick Astronomy’ is available. A book detailing the research will be published in December 2008 and copies may be obtained from me directly.
Text Box: TITANIC  THE MIDLANDS’ CONNECTIONS
Text Box: It is not only industry  that was associated with the Titanic. Passengers and workers were on board the ship. I have studied in detail the life of first class passenger William Edward Hipkins who was managing director of W & T Avery Limited.
Text Box: I have prepared two books relating to the Titanic—’Life In The Balance’ due to be published in 2009 and ‘Titanic The Midlands’ Connections’, due to be published soon.
